HSW is a licensed mental health counseling and sandplay training center located in New Bedford, Massachusetts. By integrating traditional therapeutic styles with expressive therapy techniques, HSW is able to provide support for healing at all levels of the self.

At times, our lives can become overwhelming, and we may be left with sadness, worry, fear, anxiety, anger, feelings of being stuck, guilt, shame, or feelings that cannot be communicated verbally. HSW offers a confidential, private, and highly supportive environment that allows a deep level of healing and growth to take place.

Sandplay Therapy

It is a powerful therapeutic technique that facilitates the psyche's natural capacity for healing.

Individual Talk Therapy

A way to treat people with a mental disorder by helping them understand their illness.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) uses a patient's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements. These eye movements dampen the power of emotionally charged memories of past traumatic events.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

A type of psychotherapy in which negative patterns of thought about the self and the world are challenged in order to alter unwanted behavior patterns or treat mood disorders such as depression.

Expressive Therapies

the use of the creative arts as a form of therapy. Unlike traditional art expression, the process of creation is emphasized rather than the final product.

Trauma Informed Therapy

An organizational structure and treatment framework that involves understanding, recognizing, and responding to the effects of all types of trauma.

Touch Drawing created by Debrah Koff-Chapin is a simple yet profound process. Paper is placed over wet paint. The pressure of fingertips on the page forms images on the underside.  The hands are extensions of the soul, moving in response to the sensations of the moment. Channels of expression open, enabling feelings to flow. A series of drawings is created, each a stepping stone deeper into the self.

This act of creation unleashes vibrant healing forces that guide the psyche toward wholeness. Even an unconfident artist can experience the fulfillment of seeing their interior life come alive on paper. Touch Drawing is a practice of creative, psychological and spiritual integration.

Come work to heal shame at the deepest core of yourself.  According to Brene Brown “Shame resilience theory is a grounded theory and is based on building resilience to shame by connecting with our authentic selves and growing meaningful relationships with other people.  It involves moving towards empathy (courage, connection, and compassion) when we are experiencing shame and moving away from it (fear, blame and disconnection).”
